Question

What do you want to understand?

∫

Model

Translate the situation into mathematics.

↗

Explore

Analyse, simulate, compare, investigate.

★

Discover

Interpret what the mathematics reveals.

There is no single path — and no single solution.
WHAT IS DYNAMIQ?

Not another
worksheet. A
mathematical
experience.

You will begin with a real-world situation — not a ready-made differential equation. Your team decides what matters, makes assumptions, identifies variables and parameters, builds a model, explores its behaviour, and explains what your results mean.

The strongest solution is not necessarily the most complicated one. A simple model that is well justified, explored intelligently, and genuinely understood can be powerful.

01

Real-world challenge

Start with a situation worth understanding, predicting, or explaining.

02

Your mathematical decisions

Choose what to model, what to assume, and how Differential Equations should enter.

03

Your interpretation

Use the mathematics to produce insight — and recognise where your model has limits.

WHO SHOULD JOIN?

Students who are curious about Differential Equations and mathematical modelling.

You do not need advanced programming, a research background, or an elaborate model. You need curiosity, teamwork, mathematical reasoning, and the willingness to explore a problem that may have more than one reasonable approach.

YOUR JOURNEY

From challenge reveal to the final.

One month to investigate, refine, and communicate your mathematical story.

1

Register Your Interest

Build your team of 3 and submit your team’s interest by the registration deadline.

2

Challenge Reveal

Your team receives 3 real-world challenges. Read them all and choose one.

→
3

Model · Explore · Create

Build your model, test assumptions, analyse, simulate, compare, and discover.

4

Submission Day

Submit your Project Showcase, 7-minute Pitch, Technical Appendix, and an optional prototype or demonstrator where it strengthens your solution.

5

Finalists Revealed

Selected teams move forward to the DYNAMIQ Final.

6

The Final

Finalists present live before the judging panel: 10-minute presentation + 10-minute Q&A.

WHAT WILL YOU SUBMIT?

A complete solution package.

Show the mathematics, the reasoning, and how your solution could work in practice.

01

Project Showcase

ONE VISUAL PAGE

A concise visual summary of the challenge, model, assumptions, analysis, results, and recommendation.

02

DYNAMIQ Pitch

7-MINUTE VIDEO

Present the story behind your mathematics: what you modelled, why you chose that approach, what you discovered, and what your findings mean.

03

Technical Appendix

MAX. 2 PAGES

Provide the mathematical detail needed to support and verify your work, including equations, parameters, methods, sources, and computational or AI disclosure.

04

Prototype or Demonstrator

OPTIONAL

Where appropriate, teams may include a simulation, interactive model, visualisation, computational tool, physical prototype, or other demonstrator that makes the proposed solution more tangible.

WHAT MAKES A PROJECT STAND OUT?

Mathematics that thinks.

More complicated does not mean better.

1

Model

Translate the real situation into meaningful mathematics.

2

Think

Use mathematics correctly, purposefully, and with sound reasoning.

3

Explore

Go beyond solving. Test ideas, compare scenarios, and ask “what if?”

4

Discover

Reveal insight. What did the mathematics actually show?

5

Communicate

Tell your mathematical story clearly and engagingly.

TECHNOLOGY, DATA & AI

Use them wisely.

You may use mathematical software, coding, simulation, visualisation, reliable data, and approved AI tools where they strengthen your investigation. Programming ability is not being assessed, and you do not need to build software.

RECOGNITION

Excellence deserves recognition.

The winning team will receive a distinguished award recognising excellence in mathematical modelling, innovation, and communication.

FAQ

Before you register.

Quick answers to the questions students usually ask first.

Do I need to be currently enrolled in a Differential Equations course?

No. DYNAMIQ is open to students who are interested in Differential Equations and mathematical modelling.

Do I need advanced mathematics?

No. A clear, appropriate model that is genuinely understood can be stronger than an unnecessarily complicated one.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Coding can be useful, but programming ability is not being assessed.

Can we use AI?

Approved AI tools may be used responsibly. Your team remains responsible for checking and understanding everything included in the final work.

Will there be one correct answer?

No. Different assumptions and modelling choices can lead to different valid approaches.

Can we use real data?

Yes. Reliable public data or data you collect yourselves may be used where relevant. Identify your sources clearly.

What happens if we become finalists?

Finalists present their project live before the judging panel on , followed by judges’ Q&A.

What are the prizes?

Valuable prizes will be announced separately.
